Editorial

Editor-in-Chief: Isabella Cueto

Isabella Cueto is editor-in-chief of The Miami Hurricane. She is a proud Cuban-American from Miami, and a senior double-majoring in journalism and theater arts. She joined The Hurricane as a baby journalist during her freshman year and since, her work has appeared on Miami.com, The New Tropic, Miami Herald, Medill Justice Project and WLRN.

Managing Editor: Annie Cappetta

Annie is a senior from Chicago majoring in ecosystem science and policy and political science with minors in climate science and policy and Judaic studies. She started writing for TMH as a columnist in 2014 and eventually fell in love with every part of the newspaper. She is also the president of the CommUnity Garden student organization, works in the Dean of Students Office and contributes to the food magazine Edible South Florida. In the future, she plans attend law school and pursue environmental law.

Online Editor: Jackie Yang

Jackie Yang has been with The Miami Hurricane for more than three years, previously serving as the managing editor and opinion editor. Originally from the Tampa Bay area, Jackie studies neuroscience and creative writing at UM and is involved with the undergraduate literary journal, Mangrove. Her fiction can be found in The Nashville Review, and elsewhere.  Jackie plans to attend medical school after graduation.

Senior Editor: Elizabeth Gelbaugh

Elizabeth Gelbaugh, senior editor of The Miami Hurricane, is a senior majoring in journalism and minoring in creative writing. Her work has appeared in the Charleston City Paper and on Miami.com.

Art Director: Emily Dulohery

Emily is an architectural engineering major from Wichita, Kansas. She has worked on student publications for five years, and plans to minor in journalism and seek freelance work upon graduation. When she’s not in the newsroom, Emily can be found pouring lattes at The Billy Goat, designing pieces for friends and family, or FaceTiming her dog, Maggie.

Isaiah is a junior from Weston, Florida majoring in broadcast journalism. He has been working for The Miami Hurricane since his freshman year and has been the sports editor for two years. His work has appeared in The Miami Herald. His biggest passion is to tell stories, and he hopes to go straight into the workforce after graduation as a sports reporter on television.

Opinion Editor: Grace Wehnianen

Grace is a junior motion pictures major from Coral Springs, FL. She loves language, uplifting stories and any class that lets her watch TV for homework.

Adviser: Tsitsi Wakhisi

Tsitsi Wakhisi is an associate professor of professional practice at the School of Communication at the University of Miami. Wakhisi is the two-time winner of the University’s Excellence in Teaching Award, which she received in 1996 and 2006. Wakhisi received a Master of Science degree in journalism (MSJ) from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and English from Mundelein College in Chicago. Her professional background includes serving as a reporter or editor for several daily newspapers, including the Detroit News, the Plain Dealer in Cleveland, Ohio, the Kansas City Star and The Miami Herald.
