Donna E. Shalala, President of the University of Miami and former United States Secretary of Health and Human Services held a talk Monday, September 21 at Eaton Residential College at the University of Miami. The event was in the style of a town hall meeting where students were encouraged to participate and ask questions. “The way in which we practice medicine in this country needs to change. We’re trying to control the spending. There’s a lot of debate because there’s a lot of fear about the public plan,” said Shalala.
“The goal of this talk was to explain the major debate going on in this country, which is health care reform. I’ve been talking in residential halls, the Nursing School, and the Department of Physical Therapy,” said Shalala.
