“This past week, I did not feel like we had the necessary energy, the ‘juice’, to play the best defense that we could play,” Larrañaga said. “We rely very heavily on our defense causing turnovers, so we can get into the open court. Because once it gets to, I’ll say like the Virginia game, where we just could not stop them [from scoring], could not force enough turnovers and we couldn’t make 3’s."

“We need to use the momentum from this match moving forward,” Miami head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews said. “We fought to the bitter end, and we played some big tennis in the big moments. I’m proud of this team’s effort today.”

“Our strategy to begin the game was to try to keep Notre Dame from getting 3’s,” Miami head coach Jim Larrañaga said. “They’re a terrific 3-point shooting team and we felt like that was the key, but they were able to take advantage of us inside … We were never able to turn them over and get them to make enough mistakes.”

“This week was not a failure by any stretch of the imagination. We beat a ranked opponent and we beat a rival on the road,” Meier said. “Now, we have to focus up and go to Wake Forest and grab a game that we felt we left on the table at home when we had that 25-day layoff.”

“I think everybody in life battles through adversity. There are always challenges, and we have a very simple philosophy based on three words and the first word is ‘attitude’,” Miami head coach Jim Larrañaga said.

“The ladies competed well today. We’re a tight group and we believe. I’m really excited for what is around the corner,” Miami head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews said.

The Hurricanes (10-6, 3-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) enter Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, with sights set on a third consecutive road victory, after hitting 11 3-point field goals against FSU. UM had 11 combined in its previous three contests.

“I thought that was one heck of a college basketball game,” Miami head coach Jim Larrañaga said. “I was thrilled to see the place sold out. Our students turned out in large numbers. It made for an absolutely electric atmosphere … I think the fans were really treated to two great basketball teams slugging it out.”

“We can’t look for excuses right now. People have to step up and play a heck of a lot better than they’re playing,” Miami head coach Katie Meier said. “We’ve got a lot of difficult games ahead of us, and these kind of performances aren’t going to get us wins.”

Miami’s men’s and women’s tennis teams opened 2022 with strong outings against ISTA-ranked competition in the Miami Spring Invite at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
