Currently three former Miami women’s basketball players are active members of WNBA teams, and all are looking to leave the bubble with rings on their fingers. Here’s a preview of what to expect from them and their teams:
Juniors Dee Wiggins and Mark Pope and senior Mike Harley have all been named as the starting receivers for the team’s season opener vs the University of Alabama at Birmingham on Thursday.
After several months of discussion and planning, the Miami Hurricanes will be the first Power 5 program to hit the football field during the coronavirus pandemic.
“It’s one of the things that is near and dear to my heart,” Miami head coach Katie Meier said. “That’s why I don’t think anyone should be pouting or hanging their heads in a basketball game. There’s people really fighting and it’s to raise awareness, to make sure that even if today we didn’t win it’s still a win.”
“For me, it’s straight forward. I want to win. I want to win as many games as possible,” King said. “I know the history behind this program. I know where it’s been, I know where coach Diaz and everybody is trying to get it back to. I’m just here to win as many games as possible. My ultimate goal is to go 12-0 this year.”
It was windier than usual, but the sun was still shining as the Hurricanes kicked off the first day of the Miami Spring Invite. Miami welcomed Northwestern, Oklahoma, and the No. 10 Vanderbilt to the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
