"Obviously, last season, we kind of had like a down slip going into the regional and we used that as motivation to flip the script," All-ACC closer Andrew Walters said. "This season, we’re on the way up and we’re playing some of our best baseball going into this regional. So, it’s a different feeling for sure."

The ride is over – for now. In an 11-5 defeat, the No. 11 Miami Hurricanes lost to the No. 6 Clemson Tigers in the ACC Baseball Championship final from Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Sunday afternoon.

"We got it handed to us today," Miami head coach Gino DiMare said. "At the end of the day, they put the ball in play and they make you make plays. We hit some balls hard, but we didn’t get the big hits and the game got away from us."

The Miami Hurricanes played a Sunday doubleheader against Georgia Tech after inclement weather postponed baseball on Saturday. No. 17 Miami won the first game of the day 9-7 and dropped the second game 9-5 in six innings at Mark Light Field.

When Miami head coach Gino DiMare called upon junior closer Andrew Walters, it was for all the marbles. The 6-foot-4 right hander needed to get six outs without allowing a run, no easy feat considering his 13th-ranked opponent, the North Carolina Tar Heels.

It was a wonderful day for the 19 seniors involved in the track and field program at Miami. Each was allowed to smile and hold up a custom artwork of themselves, a parting gift for their efforts.

"I won’t take anything away from our guys, they did one heck of a job," Miami head coach Gino DiMare said. "To sweep our rival, just a huge, huge weekend."

Before the first pitch was thrown on Friday night at Mark Light Field, the Miami Hurricanes and Florida State Seminoles were deadlocked. Since 1971, the two teams have both won 128 games against each other.
