Season opener a hit

Trailing at halftime by six points, the Hurricanes stepped it up in the second half and came back to beat Jacksonville, 89-77, a team that advanced to the second round of the NIT last season.

Canes’ ACC hopes hanging by a thread

The Miami Hurricanes did their part, but didn’t receive the help they were looking for from former head coach Butch Davis. Miami (7-3, 5-2 ACC) traveled to Atlanta and beat Georgia Tech, 35-10, at its own game. The Yellow Jackets (5-5, 3-4 ACC) lead the nation in rushing yards, but they couldn’t stop the Canes’ rushing attack nor the strikes true freshman Stephen Morris threw.

Fresh blood from fourth string kick-starts team

After hearing the crowd erupt, true freshman Stephen Morris lay on his back on the turf with his arms raised over his head, knowing he had thrown the game-winning touchdown. Morris then got up and ran down the field to celebrate with his teammates in the end zone.

Canes face bigger problems than recent losses

The Miami Hurricanes have more problems than falling out of the Top 25. After a brutal hit last week in their game against Virginia, junior leader and captain Jacory Harris may not be quarterback for the first time since December 2008. A concussion may sideline the relentless Harris. He did not practice Tuesday or Wednesday.

Loss against Virginia cuts ACC chances

Halloween came one day early for the Miami Hurricanes football team as it was dealt a major scare. Its leader and captain, junior quarterback Jacory Harris, was knocked out of the game in the second quarter and never returned. He suffered a concussion and is questionable for Saturday’s game against Maryland.
