It’s not how you start, but how you finish.
The University of Miami baseball team (38-22) began the season hot, reaching a ranking as high as No. 2 in the country, but struggled down the stretch and failed to reach the College World Series for only the fifth time under head coach Jim Morris.
At Morris’s opening press conference in February before the season started, he compared this team to the 1999 team. That squad won the College World Series based on the same small ball formula. In 1998 the Canes lost stars like Pat Burrell, Aubrey Huff and Jason Michaels and rebounded with a historic season. The same can be said 10 years later if the Canes can win after losing names like Yonder Alonso, Jemile Weeks and Dennis Raben.
Boston College is having a surprisingly good season. The Eagles will likely make the ACC Tournament. Earlier this year they won a series at FSU. Miami is poised to finish strong as they hope to hit their stride heading into postseason play. Miami is 5-0 all-time against the northernmost team in the conference.
