BEING AN AMBASSADOR

Actress Nicole Kidman will become the newest UN Ambassador working for women’s rights. Earning the title of UNIFEM as part of the Department Fund for Women, Kidman will work along side a member of the Kenyan Parliament and a princess of Jordan. Kidman joins actress Julie Andrews, who had the post in the 1990s.

FILM AT SUNDANCE CREATES BUZZ

Premiering at the Sundance Film Festival, director Kirby Dick and his documentary This Film Is Not Yet Rated has some serious criticisms about the ratings system. Deeming them practically unsuitable for audiences, the documentary examines the rating process and showing the rating system as a form of subtle censorship. Hopefully Dick’s film will create enough of a stir for something to be done about the unqualified judges.

HONORED WITH A STAMP

Adding to the interesting and historical stamp collections the U.S. Post Office honored actress Hattie McDaniel, the first African-American woman to win an Academy Award with a commemorative stamp. McDaniel is the 29th person honored in the Black-heritage stamp series.
