Wellness Center expansion shifts workouts

Wellness center a place of learning and fun

For many students, coming to college is not only about learning academic skills. Students seek opportunities that allow them to attain life skills only found outside the classroom. At the University of Miami, one such opportunity can be found is at the Coral Gables Wellness Center, and more specifically, in their Instructional Program.

The types of programs offered cover the entire spectrum of recreational and fitness activities including: Aquatics, Dance classes, Martial Arts, exercise and sports lessons. According to the University of Miami website, the Instructional Programs “are taught by nationally certified professionals, and are open to everyone, regardless of membership status.”

Weight lifting beneficial for women

“The goal of this program is to get women more familiar with the weight room,” said Nikki McGowan, the personal trainer who teaches the class. “One of my friends in the weight room pointed out to me one evening that there were girls who were interested in using ‘that side’ of the gym, but were too timid or not educated enough in proper lifting technique.”

Getting a credit card in college just got a little bit harder

The new Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility and Disclosure Act (CARD) will prevent excessive rate increases, improve transparency among credit card companies, eliminate the confusing fine print and protect young people from getting in over their heads.
