The festival kicked off Wednesday with a performance by the Mad Cat Theatre Company at 7:30 p.m. at the Colony Theatre. The South Florida-based theater company presented their classic “Shepherd’s Pie” where a group of Irish hoodlums take on the task of explaining why we really celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

Insomnia will take over Miami Beach when Sleepless Night 2009 consumes the city with the best in the arts. Beginning at 6 p.m. on Saturday, November 7 and lasting until 7 a.m. Sunday morning, Sleepless Night 2009 is a 13-hour, arts and entertaining extravaganza featuring 130 events that can all be enjoyed for free.

Miami football’s first open practice of the spring will be held today at 6:30 p.m. at Traz Powell Stadium located on the north campus of Miami Dade College (11380 NW 27th Avenue). Fans will also have the opportunity to purchase season tickets.
