Canes head down home stretch, hope for deja vu

At Morris’s opening press conference in February before the season started, he compared this team to the 1999 team. That squad won the College World Series based on the same small ball formula. In 1998 the Canes lost stars like Pat Burrell, Aubrey Huff and Jason Michaels and rebounded with a historic season. The same can be said 10 years later if the Canes can win after losing names like Yonder Alonso, Jemile Weeks and Dennis Raben.

Senior outrunning nation’s top competition

Before her junior year of high school, Murielle Ahoure and her family moved from one small town in Virginia to another. She didn’t know any of her classmates and had no idea how she would fit in.

It was her counselor who first advised Ahoure to go out for track and even took her to meet the coach.

“I tried it and thought, ‘wow, I could go to school for this.’ I’ve been running ever since,” she said.
