The hiring of Basketball Hall of Fame member and disgraced Knicks head coach Isiah Thomas to lead cross-town rival FIU has certainly grabbed headlines in the sports world. Plenty of jokes can be made about the situation, but it certainly is a roll of the dice that could turn out well for the school. But the high-profile hiring is a good time to take a look at how UM hires their coaches.

Through the combined efforts of an up-and-coming organization, a student-run garden may soon be sprouting on campus; bringing with it a sense of community, responsibility and a chance to get your hands dirty. The organization responsible for this green initiative is known as the Comm”U”nity Garden—or will be soon. The group is awaiting COSO’s approval to become mandated and make it official.
