On a Wednesday night when the BankUnited Center was supposed to be electrifying and exhilarating for the Miami Hurricanes, the evening ended with the sound of Duke fans cheering.

Former Hurricanes basketball players Jack McClinton, Don Curnutt and Dick Hicox were honored during halftime of Wednesday night’s men’s basketball game against Duke at the BankUnited Center.

The Lady Canes (13-4, 1-2) were ranked 25th in the Associated Press poll last week. It was the team’s first ranking since February 23rd, 2004.

In spite of throwing a career-high with four interceptions last week against North Carolina and wearing a soft cast on his throwing hand this week, sophomore quarterback Jacory Harris is ready and expected to play against Duke.

The Hurricanes (7-3, 4-3) went Chapel Hill, N.C. looking to extract revenge on former Miami head coach Butch Davis and the North Carolina Tar Heels but lost another heartbreaker as the Canes fell short 33-24.

Regardless of the loss on Sunday, Friday’s victory was impressive for several reasons.

Under the helm of head coach Randy Shannon, the motivated No. 12 Canes pummeled Virginia, 52-17, making it a special win for the juniors and seniors.

There will never be another McClinton, the greatest player in UM Baksetball history. He had a will to win and a knack for hitting shots in the clutch. This year will be much more of a team effort than just a one man show.
