The University of Miami Police Department in conjunction with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) have arrested a 16-year-old in the murder of the 8-to 10-foot crocodile killed in a UM canal Oct. 1.

A suspect has been arrested in the killing and mutilation of an American Crocodile found in the university’s canal system, according to University of Miami media relations.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission confirmed today that they have leads in the case of the dismembered crocodile found on the University of Miami’s Coral Gables campus on Oct. 1.

No one disputes that the brutal slaying of a crocodile on our campus was a repulsive act, but The Miami Hurricane’s reporting on the subject requires a fair amount of criticism.

It is the twilight. After a long day basking and defending your territory, you retire to the depths to prepare for another day. Then, an aroma tantalizes your nostrils.

Whatever the truth about the brutal murder and mutilation of one of our beloved crocodiles may be, there might be some more important issues to look at.
