Editor-in-Chief: Alexander Gonzalez
Alexander Gonzalez is a senior majoring in English and completing the pre-medical track. He started as a reporter his freshman year and worked as an assistant editor during his sophomore year and news editor his junior year. He enjoys the daily challenges of keeping up with the latest happenings on and off campus. Aside from The Hurricane, Alex has researched with the English department, volunteers at hospitals and feels guilty about the occasional binge-watching session on Netflix. Though he hopes to attend medical school after graduating, he aspires to continue to work with publications and news outlets.
Managing Editor: Erika Glass
Erika Glass is a senior majoring in broadcast journalism with a double minor in history and Italian. She joined The Miami Hurricane her freshman year as a contributing writer has served as a copy editor and multimedia editor. She is also an assistant producer at WPBT-Channel 2 and one of the executive producers of SportsDesk, University of Miami’s on-campus sports show. In her downtime, she enjoys going to the theater and watching television.
Online Editor: Lyssa Goldberg
This is Lyssa’s fourth year on The Miami Hurricane. She is a senior majoring in journalism and political science with a minor in math. Her interest in digital media and interactivity led her to become online editor this year, which means she manages online content, runs social media for TMH and works with the webmaster to maintain the website. She interned at Mashable this past summer and has both interned and freelanced as a food blogger for the Miami New Times. Lyssa also loves baseball and serves as a Sugarcane bat girl for Hurricanes Baseball.

News Editor: Marlee Lisker
Marlee Lisker is a junior majoring in creative writing and minoring in journalism. She joined The Miami Hurricane her freshman year as a contributing writer and worked last semester as Edge editor. She also serves as the Nonfiction editor for UM’s literary journal, Mangrove. During her free time, she reads books frantically and embarks on accidental adventures.
Online News Editor: Emily Dabau
Emily Dabau is a sophomore majoring in journalism and public relations. She joined The Miami Hurricane her freshman year as a copy editor. In addition to The Hurricane, her work has been featured in The Communique and Broward-Palm Beach New Times. She also partners with the Toppel Career Center to serve as an academic fellow to incoming students. On her downtime, she enjoys exploring the city, listening to music and watching movies.
Opinion Editor: Alexa Langen
Alexa Langen is a junior majoring in English and History. Before becoming Opinion Editor, she wrote columns about language, but mostly just wandered around aimlessly, picking up rocks and putting them down in different places. She also conducts research on mid-20th century rural America, and in her free time completes New York Times crossword puzzles, eats lots of pasta, and loses consistently at chess.
Edge Editor: Ashley Martinez
Ashley Martinez is a senior majoring in journalism and psychology, meaning she spends most of her time people-watching. She has worked as a copy editor, assistant editor and is now the Edge editor at The Miami Hurricane. She serves as the president of UM’s chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. Her work has been featured in The Hurricane, Distraction Magazine, The Communique, Gables Home Page and The Miami Herald. When she’s not working on a story, she can usually be found at the theater or singing show tunes.
Sports Editor: Courtney Fiorini
Courtney Fiorini is a senior majoring in broadcast journalism and minoring in sports administration, religious studies and history. This is her first year with The Miami Hurricane. She enjoys being a reporter and working behind the scenes for SportsDesk on UMTV. When she’s not writing or filming, she likes to help volunteer for Canes Emergency Response Team and Society of Women Engineers to help her friends. She also enjoys listening to music and watching British television.

Art Director: Sarbani Ghosh
Sarbani Ghosh is a senior majoring in art with an art history minor. She joined The Miami Hurricane her junior year as a designer/illustrator and is now art director. Her art has been featured in The Atlas Review, DISTRACTION, The Hurricane, and many other sources, including the Lowe Art Museum and at Art Basel this coming December. She does a variety of freelance work for DISTRACTION, Emet Israel, Cemoi chocolate company and many others. In her down-time, she realizes she has no down-time because she is constantly updating her portfolio with new designs and paintings. She enjoys hanging out with friends, karaoke and pointing out bad font choices.

Hallee Meltzer is a sophomore majoring in ecosystem science and policy and chemistry. She joined The Miami Hurricane last year as a contributing photographer and became a staff photographer. In the past, she has covered events such as Ultra Music Festival, Lollapalooza and the Miami Film Festival. She is now the assistant photo editor. When she is not busy snapping photos, she can be found cooking or relaxing at the beach.

Erika Jackson is a senior studying broadcast journalism and LGBTQ studies. This is her second semester with The Miami Hurricane. Erika’s activities around campus include membership with UMTV, the university’s television station, Best Buddies International and the National Broadcasting Society Alpha Epsilon Rho. Besides working with TMH, Erika is currently interning with NBC News in Miami. During her spare time, Erika enjoys decorating her home and keeping in touch with her family in New Jersey.

Copy Chief: Sherman Hewitt
Sherman Hewitt is a sophomore majoring in computer science, with two minors in mathematics and journalism. He joined the newspaper as a copy editor during his freshman year. Whenever he’s not solving online puzzles or reading news articles, he’s searching the Internet for funny videos, hanging out with friends or taking long walks around campus.
Alina Zerpa is a sophomore double majoring in Journalism and Psychology. She joined The Miami Hurricane staff in her freshman year as a contributing news writer and later, a copy editor. She has written for Distraction and for the Alpha-1 Foundation, a non-profit organization, as well as producing UNews, a news podcast for the school’s radio, WVUM. In her free time, she loves writing in her journal, bothering her grandmother, sending funny snapchats and laughing to herself about things she finds on Tumblr.
