This may be the year the Miami Hurricanes women’s basketball team has been waiting for. The Canes and fifth year head coach Katie Meier have their sights set on the postseason after bringing in another skilled and talent recruiting class to go along with seven returning players including sophomores Shenise Johnson and Riquna Williams.
Junior forward Dwayne Collins will enter his name in the 2009 NBA Draft, testing the waters of professional basketball. However, he will not hire an agent, meaning that he can return to the Hurricanes for his senior season if he chooses.
Guard Nick Calathes scored 21 points and center Alex Tyus added 13 as Florida jumped out to an early 20-2 lead and held on for a 74-60 victory against in-state rival Miami Friday night in the second round of the National Invitational Tournament.
The loss likely deals a deathblow to Miami’s NCAA Tournament hopes.
