Going gets tough in Canes’ remaining games

This weekend the University Miami baseball team will travel up coast to play the University of North Carolina in what marks the beginning of a mammoth stretch in the Hurricanes’ regular season schedule.

Canes take two of three from Terrapins

At the beginning of April, the University of Miami baseball team hit the road to take on Boston College and had two games postponed due to winter weather, forcing both teams to play a double header in order to complete the series.

Freshman pitcher proves he deserves starting role

Some questioned head coach Jim Morris’s decision to start a true freshman at the front end of the rotation this season, but the critics have been silenced. Bryan Radziewski is the real deal.

Experienced team attempts to improve

The University of Miami Volleyball team hosted a four-team spring tournament this past weekend at the James L. Knight Sports Complex on Miami’s Coral Gables campus.

Hot bats fuel recent success on the field

Following a road trip to Boston College last weekend that saw two games postponed due to snow and freezing rain, the Hurricanes baseball team returned to the comfortable weather of Coral Gables and enjoyed a three game sweep of NC State this past weekend.

Baseball Midseason Report: Canes overcome rough start

Coming into this season few people knew what to expect from Miami’s starting rotation. Completely overhauled from it’s 2010 staff, head coach Jim Morris chose true freshman Bryan Radziewski to pitch on Friday nights, with sophomores E.J. Encinosa and Eric Whaley backing him up on Saturdays and Sundays respectively. Along with sophomore Steven Ewing on the mound during midweek contests, the starting rotation has carried the Hurricanes up until this point, combining for a 13-6 overall record.

Snow doesn’t affect hot bats

The Hurricanes (17-11, 8-3) and Eagles (10-15, 4-7) were only able to play two of three scheduled contests against each other, squeezing in a double header on Sunday. Miami won both contests by scores of 19-4 and 7-6 respectively.

Canes win ninth straight, take on Georgia Tech over weekend

Fast-forward two weeks and Miami (14-8, 6-0) hasn’t lost a game since. The Hurricanes are in the midst of a nine game winning streak heading into this weekend’s showdown with ACC Coastal Division foe Georgia Tech.

Canes sweep Wake Forest, on seven game streak

Miami (12-8, 6-0) swept Wake Forest this past weekend in Winston-Salem behind solid pitching and late game heroics to remain undefeated in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Illinois State splits midweek series with struggling Canes

After missing the better part of the last two weeks recovering from surgery to remove his gall bladder, the veteran head baseball coach returned to his familiar stomping grounds to see his team split a two-game series against Illinois State.
