Freshman Ellie Gladstone, of Random Act of Kindness, helps the Lopez family [mother, Jessica, and daughters Astrid (9) and Jhomira (14)] pick out clothes at the 2nd annual Great Give Away clothing drive in at the Miami Rescue Mission’s Community Activity Center. “When I showed up at 8am, there were already at least 30 people outside and we don’t open until 10am,” said Franklin McCune, RAK’s supervisor. The Great Giveaway provided Miami-Dade’s impoverished community with clothing, shoes, handbags, jewelry and personal hygiene kits. The Great Give Away started on campus and was a 2-3 week incentive-based clothing drive that rewarded those who donated 5 or more articles of clothing with a brand new U R Awesome shirt.
