Basketball

The University of Miami men’s basketball team will be holding open tryouts on Friday, Oct. 3, at 3:30 p.m. in the Hecht Athletic Center.

In order to be eligible to tryout, NCAA paperwork has to be completed by Monday, Sept. 29.

Football

Hurricane donation drive at Dolphin Stadium

University of Miami fans attending the football games on Sept. 27 against North Carolina and Oct. 4 against Florida State University are urged to drop off non-perishable canned food and clothing items at the stadium for Caribbean victims of Hurricanes Ike, Gustav and Hanna.

All items collected will be distributed by the City of Miami and the Carma Foundation, led by Milky Jean, the sister of award-winning recording artist Wyclef Jean.

Golf

Hurricanes finish 19th at Cougar Classic

Sophomore Christina Hirano turned in the third-best score for Miami at the Cougar Classic, a three-over par 75 in the final round Tuesday, as the Canes finished 19th at the tournament hosted by the College of Charleston at Yeaman’s Hall Golf Club.

Hirano’s sister Jennifer, a freshman, led the Canes with an 11-over par (227) for 47th.

Miami returns for the UNC Greensboro Starmount Fall Classic Oct. 12-14 in Greensboro, N.C.
