Weeks, Alonso on Golden Spikes Award Watch List

Miami Hurricanes junior second baseman Jemile Weeks and junior first baseman Yonder Alonso have been named to the Golden Spikes Award Watch List by USA Baseball. The Golden Spikes Award is given to the nation’s top baseball player of the season.

Track and Field
Simkins and Harris honored for performances

University of Miami junior Krista Simkins and senior Tim Harris were honored for their performances this past week. Simkins earned ACC Indoor Track Co-Performer of the Week honors for her first place finish in the 400-meters at the Tyson Invitational, while Harris was named Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week. Harris recorded the third fastest time by any indoor performer in the 800-meters this season.

Golf
Steward leads Hurricanes

Senior Jessica Steward helped lead the UM women’s golf team to a fourth place finish at the Qdoba Collegiate Championships. Steward finished tied for second overall in the individual standings, as she finished two strokes shy of first.

Men’s Tennis
Match postponed

The scheduled match on Feb. 17 between No. 26 UM and No. 54 University of South Florida has been postponed to an undetermined later date due to poor weather conditions.
